A talented barrel horse isn't built over night. My patient training style builds confidence and develops a horse that's in it for the long haul.
Every horse that comes to me for training . . . I want them to be soft in my hands, responsive to my leg and sit cues. So I'll work with the face, poll, feet placement, shoulders, rib cage and hind end. When they are my kind of broke then the transition to the barrels will be easier for them.
You have to learn where the line lies between asking too little and asking too much. Each ride you want to end on a good note, when your horse is relaxed and receptive - not when they are confused or exhausted. It's different with each horse, this is where my ability to read a horse comes in.
Experience is everything.
